DART: Your Ride This Weekend

It’s shaping up into a party weekend, with wine, balloons, barbecue and more. DART’s the best way to get to these great weekend events!

Thursday, Sept. 21

Why not get a jump on the weekend? The businesses on Deep Ellum’s Main Street open their doors every third Thursday evening for Wine Walk. Tonight, they’ll be celebrating International Peace Day. For $10, you’ll get a specially designed wine glass that will be topped off at the neighborhood’s many galleries and shops. Get off at Baylor University Medical Center Station and make Kettle Art Gallery your first stop.

Friday, Sept. 22

It’s the first day of the InTouch Credit Union Plano Balloon Festival, a spectacular event that runs through Sunday at Oak Point Park. The festival offers something for everyone, including entertainment on two stages, special kids activities, sky divers, tons of tempting food, cool vendors and – of course — the incredible hot air balloons. From Parker Road Station, there is a free Balloon Festival Shuttle that departs from Archerwood St.

Saturday, Sept. 23

Smoked Dallas brings barbecue from more than 15 pit masters across Texas to Downtown Dallas. Expect savory brisket, ribs, pork, sausage, and more. There’s live music and other stuff, too. It all happens Saturday at Main Street Garden – a short walk from St. Paul Station. It’s also accessible via D-Link (Route 722).

Take advantage of cooler weather at Farmers Branch’s Date Night in the Park. There will be live music from the Midnight River Choir, dinner, and a movie under the stars. The region’s most popular food trucks will be on hand, along with plenty of local brews. It takes place at Farmers Branch Historical Park, a short walk from Farmers Branch Station. Bring a blanket and/or lawn chair.

Sunday, Sept. 24

It’s the last performance of The Firehouse Theatre’s production of Seussical the Musical. The Cat in the Hat narrates the story of Horton, an elephant who discovers a speck of dust containing Whos – including Jojo, a Who child sent off to military school for thinking too many “thinks.” Friendship, loyalty, family and community are the themes of this fantastical, musical extravaganza. The Firehouse Theatre is about three blocks from Farmers Branch Station.
