Destination DART: State Fair of Texas, All About Animals!

They’re back and better than ever! The animals are a big part of the fun the State Fair of Texas has to offer. There are a variety of animal shows to see and they’re all fun for the whole family.

Celebrate your Texas roots with the Wild West Pet Palooza. All the pets starring in this stage show have been rescued from shelters across the country. It features cats, dogs, pigs and even porcupines! The show is run by Joel Slaven, an animal trainer that’s worked on movies like “Ace Venture: Pet Detective” and “That Darn Cat.” You can catch the Wild West Pet Palooza in the Band Shell.

Pig RacesAfter you’ve seen the Pig Races in Pan Am Arena, stick around for Jump! The Ultimate Dog Show. The dogs will soar through the air after Frisbees and into the water! It’s yet another show that features rescue animals. Two-time World Champion Frisbee Dog Trainer Lou Mack shows off his pups skills in a show you and your family won’t want to miss!

If your family wants to get more an education, you can check out the Children’s Aquarium which stays open during the fair. You can also go to the Pan Am Barn for the Milking Demonstration. Kids can learn that milk doesn’t just appear on store shelves as they watch cows from local farms participate in a modern milking demonstration.

You can get to the State Fair of Texas by taking the Green Line to Fair Park Station. General admission to the fair is $18, children under 48” are $14, children 2 and under are free and seniors are $14. Use GoPass and save $2 on your general admission tickets.
