Rider Insider: Find things to do this Memorial Day weekend in Dallas-Fort Worth

Service Alert: DART will follow a Sunday schedule Monday, May 25, in observance of Memorial Day. The Trinity Railway Express (TRE) and the new Dallas Streetcar will not operate. Visit DART.org for more about Memorial Day service.

• Ride the DART Rail Green Line to Farmers Branch Station, then an approximate 1/2 mile walk Saturday to Liberty Fest Presents Stars & Strings at the Farmers Branch Historical Park. Activities leading to the firework fun include tours within historical structures, bounce houses, face paintings and more free activities in the Kidzone, and a photo station to document all the fun! Select concessionaires will be onsite selling a variety of festival fare, beer, wine, and snacks. You can also pre-order one of the many picnic baskets prepared by Central Market. The Park will open its gates on May 23 at 6:30 p.m. with activities for the young and the young at heart including the all-time favorite low level fireworks show. • Ride the DART Rail Red Line, Blue Line, Green Line or Orange Line to St. Paul Station or D-Link (Route 722) to Klyde Warren Park Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for the Dallas City of Learning Summer Kickoff. Bring your family to enjoy free hands-on activities including: build a tin box sculpture with Fossil Group designers; join Best Buy’s Geek Squad to invent with electronics and turn everyday objects into touchpads using the littleBits and Makey Makey invention kits; climb into the cockpit of a plane with the Frontiers Of Flight Museum; spot counterfeit money with the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas; join the Trinity River Audubon Center and learn some uncommon facts about your friendly neighborhood pigeon; and much more. Food and refreshments will be available for purchase at on-site food trucks. During the event, kids ages 6 to 18 will be able to register for Dallas City of Learning and earn a digital badge for activities they participate in.
