Rider Insider: Find things to do this weekend in D/FW

• Ride the DART Rail Red Line to Dallas Zoo Station Saturday for Kid to Do at the Dallas Zoo. The event is a family-friendly fundraiser with the Beatles-inspired theme “Love, Love me Zoo.” This year’s event will take place in the Lacerte Family Children’s Zoo, Giants of Savanna, Cat Green, and other popular areas of the Dallas Zoo. The block party style event offers kid-friendly fare and features exciting entertainment such as bounce houses, DJ, face painting, a rock climbing wall, zip lines, arts and crafts, as well as unique animal encounters, a private bird show in the Wildlife Amphitheater, and much, much more! The ticket price is $60 per person. (Children under 2 are free). Proceeds from the event enable the Dallas Zoological Society to continue in its mission to support the Dallas Zoo as an outstanding center of education, entertainment, and wildlife conservation. Purchase your tickets and find information and restaurant listings at www.dallaskidtodo.com.

• Ride the DART Rail Blue Line to Downtown Garland Station for the Garland Heritage Celebration hosted by the City of Garland and the Landmark Society. A high point of the celebration will be the rededication of the 1901 Santa Fe Depot’s Texas State Historical marker and the reopening of the Landmark Depot Museum. Additional activities are intended to mark the planned Santa Fe railcar exterior refurbishment, the Sixth Street extension from Austin to Walnut, and to emphasize Garland’s railroad heritage. Events will include a model train exhibit at the Central Library, entertainment by local musicians, movies shown in the Plaza Theater, and guided walking tours of historically significant sites in the downtown area, including the Square.
