StateFair24 State Fair of Texas You know autumn is here when the State Fair begins. This weekend has your first chance to get some decadent fried foods and your last chance to get some fresh local produce. There’s a legendary football game going on, too. Elsewhere in DARTable happenings, there are performances and exhibits. Read on to find out more. Friday, Sept. 27 The State Fair of Texas opens its gates at 10 a.m. today and runs through Oct. 20. That’s 24 days of corny dogs, rides and pig races. All the usual fried food and festivities await at Fair Park. There are some new attractions this year, too such as a Texas cinema exhibit in the Hall of State; Skyliner, a high-flying experience that’s one of several new rides; and Mighty Mike, who bends horseshoes and juggles bowling balls at the Coliseum Terrace. The Opening Day Parade is at fair Park, and it happens at noon. The Opening Day Ceremony takes place at 7 p.m. Get on the Green Line and get to Fair Park or MLK, Jr. Stations for everyone’s favorite annual event. Saturday, Sept. 28 The State Fair Classic is another fine way to kick off corny dog season. The annual grudge match between Prairie View A&M University and Grambling State University offers fierce rivalry and passionate spectators. Once again, the Green Line to Fair Park is the best ride there. Farmers Branch Market is a twilight market at The Grove at Mustang Crossing, right next to Farmers Branch Station on the Green Line. Today is the last market of the season. Stop by for fresh produce, artisanal goods, live music and other cool stuff in a pleasantly bucolic setting. The event happens from 5:30-8:30 p.m. The Royal Dilemma gets its last performance today at the Irving Arts Center. The musical offer old-world enchantment with exotic locales, bygone times, and a cast of paupers, kings, priests and thieves. Bursting with the music, dance and drama of India, the performance is accessible by Bus Route 401. The route departs from the range Line’s North Lake College Station; get off at MacArthur and Finley. Sunday, Sept. 29 Dior: From Paris to the World is a must-see for fashion fans. The exhibit at the Dallas Museum of Art surveys more than 70 years of the House of Dior's lavish embroidery, luxurious fabrics, and elegant silhouettes. There are 100 dresses, plus accessories, photographs, original sketches, runway videos, and other archival material. The exhibit runs through Oct. 27. The museum is about a 6-minute walk from St. Paul Station on all four DART Rail lines. Fierce Loyalty: A Samurai Complete showcases one of the Crow Museum of Asian Art's most recent and spectacular acquisitions: a complete set of samurai armor. It was originally created for the daimyo (a powerful ruler) of Bingo province from in the early 1700s. The suit of armor includes a helmet made by a famous armorer, and it’s one of the finest examples of its kind in the world. There’s more, too, all of it devoted to the art and culture of the Japanese samurai. The Crow Museum is free, and it’s about a 6-minute walk from St. Paul Station. #YourRideThisWeekend #DART2StateFair
