There’s a diverse offering of events this weekend: a farewell performance by a pop giant, the screening of a campy goth classic, theater performances and even a chance to sample local craft brews.

Friday and Saturday, Dec. 14-15

Elton John takes the stage at American Airlines Center for two nights, in what he is calling his “Farewell Yellow Brick Road” tour. You can expect plenty of classics from the Rocket Man’s deep trove of hits spanning decades. Get to the AAC by taking the Green Line to Victory Station. Tickets for both nights were still available at press time.

Friday through Sunday, Dec. 14-16

Dashing through the Snow is Garland Civic Theater’s colorful, comedic take on Christmas at the Snowflake Inn in fictitious Tinsel, Texas. Join the parade of lively characters at Granville Arts Center, right next to the Blue Line’s Downtown Garland Station. The Sunday matinee on Dec. 16 is the play’s final performance.

Friday, Dec. 14

The Rocky Horror Picture Show was a rite of passage if you attended high school in the late ’70s or early ’80s, and it remains a classic. You can spend the evening with Brad, Janet, Dr. Frank N. Furter and the rest at Angelika Film Center Dallas, at Mockingbird Station on the Red, Blue and Orange lines. It’s part of the theater’s fun 80s Rewind series.

Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 15-16

12 Days of Holiday Beer is an event at the Dallas Arboretum featuring a dozen breweries, each of which sets up shop from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. for a day. On Saturday, Community Beer Company will be there with their popular roster of beers. Pegasus City Brewery, known for creatively named concoctions such as Nine Volt and Cannoneer, will be the featured brewer on Sunday. There’s a whole bunch of other holiday stuff going on at the Arboretum, too. You can get there by taking Bus Route 60 and getting off at Garland Road and Lakeland Drive. Catch the bus at Union Station, served by the Red and Blue lines, or Fair Park Station on the Green Line.

Sunday, Dec. 16

The Great Distance Home gets its last performance at b2 p.m. today at the WaterTower Theatre. The play tells the story – nearly wordlessly – of a boy with a fertile imagination who sets out on a journey of discovery. The theatre is a short walk from Addison Transit Center, served by numerous bus routes. Where are you going on DART this weekend? Let us know in the comments.
