Discover New Ideas Today at PARK(ing) Day in Downtown Dallas

Last year at PARK(ing) Day, I learned how to make a bracelet from my old blue jeans. A local beekeeper taught me about honey bees and helped me plant wildflower seeds in a “pot” made from a toilet paper tube. Salsa dancers showed off their dance moves. One family held their toddler’s birthday party. Another group set up their own personal beach. Each in the space of a parking spot on Main Street.   I can’t wait to see what people do this year, and I’ve recruited at least one coworker to join me during our lunch break. Downtown Dallas, Inc. is proud to again present this event that inspires creativity, brings the business community together, and activates blocks of Main Street for an entire day. Nearly 100 parking spaces along Main Street in Downtown Dallas will be temporarily transformed into tiny public parks for the day. Local companies, charitable organizations, city departments, and individuals design and build these parklets. The fun begins at 11 a.m. with live music and poetry performances on stages located at Main Street Garden and Pegasus Plaza. The event concludes at 6 p.m. PARK(ing) Day Dallas takes place along Main Street between Harwood and Field streets, which is a couple blocks from DART’s Akard and St. Paul stations and directly served by D-Link. PARK(ing) Day is a global event held on the third Friday of September in over 300 cities in more than 60 countries. The event first took place in San Francisco in 2005. It was the brain child of the Rebar group when they transformed a single parking space into a small park using only a potted tree, a park bench, and some sod.
