Coffee with a Cop 1_2 DART Police spent time with locals answering questions about law enforcement, crime, transit issues and DART in general during DART's Coffee with a Cop event Wednesday morning at Norma’s Café in Dallas. Coffee with a Cop is a national initiative that encourages communication and positive interactions between law enforcement agencies and the public. The celebration of National Coffee with a Cop Day began as part of National Community Policing Week in 2016 and now continues each year on the first Wednesday in October, furthering efforts nationwide to bridge the gap between the community and the law. DART Police Officer Wood said the event fosters two-way communication between law enforcement and members of the community and allows locals an opportunity to get to know DART Police better. DART Police Officer Palmer said the event allows the public and law enforcement to come together on friendly terms, and gives people an avenue to express their concerns. “It’s a good way to come together with the community and learn what they want from us,” Palmer said.
