Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson: DART a Vital Asset to North Texas

Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson shares her thoughts on 20 years of DART Rail:

Eddie_Bernice_Johnson,_Official_Portrait,_c112th_CongressDART is a vital asset to North Texas. Since the opening of its first 11.2 miles of light rail in 1996, DART has remained steadfast in its commitment to building a multimodal public transportation system that is affordable, dependable and reliable. DART makes it convenient for people to access career opportunities, health care and education – while bridging important social and economic gaps throughout our communities.

I firmly believe that DART is a major contributor to the North Texas region’s economic growth and development. Transit-oriented development projects attract new businesses and residents alike, and generate millions of dollars annually for local governments. As ridership increases along the DART System, we can expect less vehicles on the road, thereby reducing traffic congestion and pollution, and improving residents’ quality of life.

As we honor the 20th anniversary of DART Rail, it is timely that I reaffirm my position as a strong proponent of public transportation and DART.
