• Ride the DART Rail Green Line to MLK, Jr. Station Friday evening for an evening of music, poetry and comedy when Smooth Jazz and Soul in the Park gets under way from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Recreation Center, 2901 Pennsylvania Ave. at Meyers St. This free outdoor performance features the melodic sounds of saxophonists Herbie Johnson and his quartet and David Carr Jr. Among the other entertainment is a performance by comedian KC Mack and spoken word recitations by several local poets and writers. Radio personality KJ of KRNB 105.7 is the stage emcee. Other event attractions are a children's area featuring fitness games, face painting and prizes and an information expo presented by Capital One Bank, Wellcare, Frazier Court Revitalization and the National Bone Marrow Group Registry. Food trucks providing concessions will be Samson's and Gourmet Hot Dogs and Texas Snow Cones. Smooth Jazz and Soul is presented by the City of Dallas Park and Recreation Department. Winner of seven Tony Awards, this beloved Broadway musical sets Dorothy's adventures in the Land of Oz to music in a dazzling, lively mixture of jazz, gospel, and soul! The Wiz is the musical version of L. Frank Baum's "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz" by Charlie Smalls and William F. Brown. Performances are at the Granville Arts Center, 300 N.
