DART begins making upgrades to elevators along Red Line

mockingbird-elevator Beginning today, the elevator at Mockingbird Station will be out of service for three weeks. Passengers that need to utilize the elevator (in lieu of escalators or stairs) are asked to travel to Lovers Lane or White Rock stations and board a shuttle to the upper level of Mockingbird Station. We understand this is an inconvenience, but it's part or a planned improvement for elevators along the Red Line north of Downtown Dallas. Along with Mockingbird, the elevators at Park Lane, Walnut Hill, Forest Lane and Spring Valley stations will be upgraded by the end of 2015. So why do these elevators need to be taken out of service? The elevator at Mockingbird Station was installed in 1996, nearly 20 years ago. Since then, elevator technology has improved greatly and the usage of that specific elevator has grown by leaps and bounds with the economic development in that area. Because of those reasons, the elevator controller and door operating system need to be replaced to better serve DART customers. DART is also adding a safety feature that automatically lowers the elevator in the event of a power outage or malfunction. With the Park Lane, Walnut Hill, Forest Lane and Spring Valley stations, passengers that require elevators will not be affected because those stations each utilize two elevators and only one will be taken out of service at the time. Thank you for your patience with our upgrades and we apologize in advance for any inconveniences you may encounter.
