On August 18, Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport will join the ranks of U.S. airports with a direct rail connection to the city center when DFW Airport Station opens at Terminal A.
Currently, the Dallas-Fort Worth, Denver, Los Angeles, Charlotte and Las Vegas airports comprise the club of airports that see more than 40 million passenger per year, but lack rail service to their downtown area. That changes in mid-August when DFW Airport becomes the third largest U.S. airport with a direct rail connection behind O’Hare in Chicago and Hartsfield-Jackson in Atlanta.
Finding a way to connect rail service to airports has become a high priority item. Salt Lake City, Phoenix and Miami most recently began service to their airports. Dallas-Fort Worth and Oakland will be beginning direct rail service soon and Denver and Orlando have rail-to-airport openings in the coming years.
“Every renowned, world-class airport has rail service to the city center,” said Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport CEO Sean Donohue.
DART’s five-mile extension of the Orange Line has been years in the making and many are hopeful the added service will attract new major conferences, corporations and more.
