Deep Ellum Brewing Co.Back in the 1920s Deep Ellum was the breeding ground for early jazz and blues musicians. Artists and musicians flocked to the area, creating an avant-garde atmosphere that still holds true today. By the early 1990s the small area of Deep Ellum had over 50 bars and nightclubs. Today, the little neighborhood on the east side of Downtown Dallas continues to pave the way in many respects but most notably, with craft brewing in Dallas. Founded in November of 2012 Deep Ellum Brewing Company launched with a bang. A short two years later Dallas now boasts five local breweries. Every Thursday and Saturday Deep Ellum Brewing Co. hosts an Open House for tasting and tours. Usually these tours are more like parties for fans. They often include special test brews and provide a chance to taste the beer. The brewery will also invite a different food truck every week as well as a local band. Tours on Thursdays are from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. Tickets are $12 if pre-purchased online or $15 at the door and include a souvenir pint glass. DART riders can take the Green Line to Baylor University Medical Center Station and walk about eight minutes to the brewery.
